Beautiful Bolognese

One of the few true Italian breeds, the Bolognese was known as a favorite companion during the Renaissance. Bologna is a city in Italy which is known for its continuous art. Bolognese have been around since 1200 AD and most likely descended from Bichon breed brought in from southern Italy. Nevertheless, dedicated breeders promote this ancient and admired dog and therefore they are a very well preserved rare breed.

Don't let the Bolognese's size or fragile appearance mislead you. A Bolognese is a tough, sturdy little dog with no frills or special needs. Their coat is what makes them distinct from many other small breeds. The cottony, white coat requires regular brushing to keep it free of tangles. Bolognese are healthy, quiet dogs that make superb companions. They have acute hearing and eyesight and take notice of anything new or unusual and notify their owners. So, while not barkers, they can be true watchdogs.
